Director Colin Trevorrow supported the actress, who refused to go on a diet.
Bryce Dallas Howard reveals the bleak backstage of Jurassic World: The World After. Colin Trevorrow’s blockbuster, third part of the saga Jurassic (and sixth if we count the early films of Steven Spielberg and Joe Johnston). We already knew that for this saga, the interpreter of Claire Dearing had been paid less by Universal than her male partner Chris Pratt, who plays Owen Grady, the trainer of raptors. She now adds Subway that she also had to fight with the production about her weight, and adds that the director came to her defense when this subject, which had already been broached during the making of the first opus, once again made the subject of discussion before filming The world after.
“How can I tell you that? she begins. How to formulate it well? I was asked not to show my natural body in the cinema. On the third film, there were plenty of female roles and Colin strongly defended me when this conversation came up, when they said: ‘We need Bryce to lose weight.’ Colin told them: ‘Listen, there are loads of different women on this earth and there are also some in our film.’ Plus, I had so many stunts to perform that if I had been on a diet at the time, it wouldn’t have been possible. I’m very happy to have had so many action scenes to shoot, by the way. To have been able to do all this with my body, to show this woman to the maximum of her strength. I hope it will make some understand that it is possible.”
About the salary gap between her and her partner, Bryce Dallas Howard explained in August to Insider : “When this news fell (in 2018)that was interesting, because I had actually been paid even less than advertised (8 million for her and 10 for him). Much less. When I entered into negotiations for Jurassic, it was 2014, it was a different world, I was at a disadvantage. And as we sign for three films at once, unfortunately, the contract is blocked afterwards. Finally, we talked about it with Chris and as soon as it was possible to renegotiate certain things, such as a game derived from the films or an attraction, he said to me: ‘Don’t worry about anything, don’t move. I take care of the negotiations. We’ll get paid the same and you won’t have to think about it, Bryce.’“
